Choosing artwork for your child’s room

When choosing artwork for your child’s room there is more to consider than just whether you want to go with pastels or primary colours, Mickey Mouse or Winnie the Pooh. You also need to consider how the artwork you choose is mounted and framed or finished.

What not to do:

There are simple things to avoid when choosing artwork for a child’s room. First, you probably do not want to frame your artwork in glass. Anything that can fall off the wall a pose a hazard for your child should be avoided. This also applies to plaque-mounted pieces. These can usually be picked up for very little money so they are tempting but they tend to be hard to hang on the wall and can fall off quite easily.

What to do:

Canvas transfers are ideal choices for art in a child’s room, as they tend to be soft and are easy to hang. Also, when it comes to mounting the artwork, make sure to hang your pieces low enough for your young one to see, but not so low that it can be easily grabbed and pulled off the wall. You may want to consider hanging artwork opposite your child’s bed instead of over the bed. This will allow your child to better see the artwork and you won’t have to worry about the bed knocking the pieces off the wall.

Showcase your pint-sized Picasso.

If your child is a budding young artist (and what child isn’t), it’s always nice to showcase their own creations in their room. You can take their original artwork and have it transferred to canvas where it can become part of your child’s very own gallery wall. Framing galleries often offer this service and it is a relatively inexpensive way to preserve your child’s creations for years to come.
