Little luxuries: gift ideas for the bridal party

How on earth do you thank someone for standing up for you at your wedding? The spotlight has been on you for months. They coolly and expertly handled your feuding in-laws, the near-disaster with the cake and that unfortunate wardrobe malfunction. They looked good doing it too. You owe them. Big time.

This is not the time for kitschy gifts or useless trinkets. Now it’s about honouring and celebrating the men, women and children who stood by your side on your big day.

To thank them, aim for little luxuries – items that have panache and special meaning. Treat your friends and family to something they might not normally buy for themselves.

For your maid of honour and bridesmaids, you could give a necklace, earrings or bracelet, or maybe a beautiful keepsake jewellery box or a delicate ring holder.

Sam Bozuk, owner of Prestige Jewellery in Keswick, says brides and grooms typically spend between $75 and $100 per gift. The most popular gifts for the best man or groomsmen are watches or pocket watches. For the ladies, it’s pearl sets. These include earrings, a necklace with gold clasps and a bracelet. They are very reasonably priced and come in at just under $100. Also popular, says Sam, are gold necklaces with the recipient’s initial as a pendant or diamond initial rings.

Other suggestions for the best man or groomsmen could be cuff links, a money clip or an elegant key chain.

For your littlest helpers, what about an adorable charm bracelet or pretty locket necklace for the flower girl? A silver-plated yo-yo or piggy bank for the ring-bearer? A beautiful, engraved picture frame with a photo of him all suited up on the big day would make a great lasting keepsake – and likely bring tears to his parents eyes.
