Gather around, families! Whether you’re a team of two, three, four or 10, Feb. 20 is your day to rediscover what makes you a family, compliments of the province’s Family Day holiday. Not sure how to spend the free day with you and yours? Here are some ideas:
If you want to browse the shops, head for the biggies. While most stores will remain closed, shopping malls designated as official tourist attractions will be open. Check out Vaughan Mills’ mammoth collection of shops from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Or try a culture shift at Pacific Mall, Markham’s sprawling, indoor Asian market featuring hundreds of vendors and mini shops, open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
If getting together with family is synonymous with enjoying good food, you’ll have all day to enjoy the eateries around the region, as most restaurants will be open. But if you plan on cooking up a storm at home, then stock up early, as most banks, grocery, liquor and beer stores will remain closed for the day.
If you want to do something other than hitting the shops, check out the events listed on local our Shoptalk websites. Nearly every York Region community is offering family-friendly activities, such as crafts, outdoor games, indoor sports, music and food, on Monday.
Whatever you decide on for Family Day, do it with family, and do it with gusto because it only comes once a year!
